about

On February 22nd, 2014, Ian Randall Thornton released his debut EP “End Where You Begin”, a six track continuous song series about the beauty and difficulty of love in the context of change, life, and death. This soulful folk record is a journey of breathtaking tension and release. Intricate, heartfelt acoustic guitar and Ian’s rich baritone blend with tasteful string arrangements and other instruments that seem to enter and exit like a brilliantly choreographed play. Poetic and descriptive lyrics draw you into a cinematic narrative that feels like a good conversation flowing from layer to layer of the weighty topic. For such a lofty conceptual album it remains approachable, human and personal while leaving the listener feeling enriched, embraced and contemplative.

100% of the proceeds go to fund Thornton's future endeavors.

Track Name: Suffer Not
SUFFER NOT
For your labor is not in vain
And your toil will not sustain
I forgot
That I've been through This before
Yet with each time
I learn more
That love doesn't grow on trees
Like somethin you pick for free
No but love is a precious pearl
That costs you everything
And it's worth so much more
I knew a girl
And she told me love
Cannot be found
In some chest under the ground
She said that it is not
Just a treasure you receive
But it's worth is yours to leave
Because love doesn't grow on trees
Like something you pick for free
No but love is a choice you make
To give rather than take
Love doesn't grow on trees
Like something you pick for free
No love is a field with gold
Worth selling
Everything
And it's worth dying for
Track Name: Down In The Meadow
DOWN IN THE MEADOW
Where you found me years ago
Black smoke billows
From a flame as white as snow
And no I will not return
To where I've been
No I will not turn
Again
I hope I'll learn from my lover
How to let go of all
She brought
Just as she will discover
All my flaws which I forgot
Because love is not
Just some state that you are in
But I tell you love
Is when you burn
Your lovers sin
Oh I tell ya love is when you
Burn
Your lovers sin
If we were to unravel
All the fabric of our skin
Could we lay down our gavels
Seeing all that lies within
For if you want to find an excuse
You surely can
Of why you'd choose
To lose your love of any man
Just know that love is not
Just some state that you are in
But I tell ya love is when you burn your lovers sin
Down in the meadow
Where you found me years ago
Black smoke billows
From the deeds I use to know
Track Name: I Was Made To Change
woah I WAS MADE TO CHANGE
As I proceed to age
You know I shift and shape
Into another man
And I hardly recognize
My other younger lives
They testify
That no one stays the same
Woah and I will get married
To a very lovely girl
In some chapel I suppose
And my children she'll carry
As the years pass her by
She won't always be
The bride I chose
No but love doesn't die it grows
Have you ever left your home
And the people you have known
To come back and find
That no one stayed the same
For as our bodies pass us by
Their cells multiply
Because life is filled with chances to
Rebuild
Woah and I will get married
To a very lovely girl
In some chapel I suppose
And as I leave the sanctuary
My mother will cry
And say goodbye
To the boy she rose
Oh, but love doesn't die it grows
And my father did marry
A very lovely bride
Over thirty years ago
Oh and one day I'll bury
Her next to his side
As a seed I'll sadly sow
Oh but love doesn't die
It grows
Your love will not die
But grow
Track Name: I Have Seen
I HAVE SEEN
The fjords of Norway
I have seen
The isle Greece
I have seen times of war
And I've seen times of peace
And I'm sure I will see
So much I will adore
But most of all
I'm lookin forward
To the day I'll see The Lord
I am sure that the sun
Will rise in the east
And I am sure that the skies
Will be died by her beams
But I don't know when I'm goin
To the one that I am for
But you know I'm quite certain
That I'm goin to see The Lord
Woah
We will see the skies open
It will be reality
We will see every person
Bowing their knee
For this life is a play
And it will end in a roar
But at the close of the curtain
We are going to see The Lord
No I have never seen your garden
Nor did I see the birth of sin
But I've seen that you often
End where you begin
And I'm sure I will see
So much I will adore
But most of all I'm lookin forward
To the day I'll see The Lord
Track Name: So When I Die
SO WHEN I DIE
Would you bury
Me under some tree
And then my lover I suppose
For in the end all I will carry
Past the confines of time
I will have barely begun to know
But this love that I hardly know
Will not die but proceed
To grow
